Mi principal interés es comprender los mecanismos bioquímicos y fisiológicos asociados al crecimiento y la supervivencia de las plantas y alimentos en condiciones de crecimiento normales y estresantes. En particular, estudiar en plantas la funcionalidad del metabolismo de la prolina, las ROS y RNS y sus implicancias en los procesos biológicos, el efecto de los estímulos ambientales en el desarrollo, las respuestas a estreses ambientales, y la interacción planta-microbio. A su vez, tengo especial interés por traducir ese conocimiento para desarrollar cultivos mejorados genéticamente o mejores prácticas de manejo. Algunas de mis investigaciones se ejecutan en la University of Western Australia (Australia) y la Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Bélgica), universidades a las que también estoy afiliado.
